Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline including angels, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might appear unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could help the party enter locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This means them little choice but to travel to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Questers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can expect finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
